The Olive Branch That Connects Us All
🦎This tapestry honors my friend and fellow artist, Isabella Martino @frizzysalamander.
I depicted her as the ultimate “final boss” artist because I have admired her paintings far before we even were friends! I adhered her portrait to one of my painted drop cloths that I used to wipe excess paint from my brush as I painted. I did this to surround her in color, vibrancy, and painted texture. - highlighting one of the ways I look up to her! I even added dried paint globs from her actual paint pallet.
An olive branch wraps around her figure, representing her gift for bringing people together (she’s who brought the @the_gailgirls together to live with her). Isabella wears glasses but she has this beautiful, reflective, white color in her left eye that most people don’t get to see unless they really look at her without her glasses, this is why I painted her eyes above her portrait. I wanted to portray her with a straight face, confronting the viewer - to show her more serious, powerful, and confident side because she is often seen as silly and light hearted even though she is so much more.
“The Olive Branch That Connects Us All”, this painting is part of How I See Her, a series of portraits capturing the way women perceive one another in friendship.
